A new year has started, and there’s plenty of exciting horse racing in the UK that we can look forward to.

In particular, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is one race that’s become very exciting with Kauto Star back to possibly his best after winning at Kempton.

Could Kauto Star win the Gold Cup and make history?

Possibly, many horse racing tipsters however still predict that Long Run will be hard to beat come the day.

But it’s certainly got interesting, and regardless of the opinion of the horse racing tips that you receive, the race will be a joy to watch from a neutral perspective.

My own opinion: I had a funny feeling that Kauto Star would win at Kempton, I’d love to see him do it at Kempton but it may just be one step too far for this wonder horse.

I certainly will be recording the race on Channel 4 come the big day, as history could well be made.

Aside from this, there’s plenty more exciting horse racing to look forward to including many decent meetings in the summer, including Ascot.

I suspect that Euro 2012 will clash somewhat with the peak of the Flat Season, but all in all it will be a great summer of sport this year.

Not to mention the Olympics in London to add to what is going to be an incredible year.

If you’re betting on the horse racing however, don’t forget to stay disciplined with your selections, with all the other sports taking place, it will no doubt be easy to get distracted and lead to casual bets on many sports without thinking.

Keep a majority of your bank for the racing tips, and it may be wise to set aside some fun money to bet on the football, the Olympics etc

Don’t forget that despite what many people say, horse racing is one of the safest sports to bet on so don’t get carried away with other sports in the summer, do this and you’ll be fine.
